Introduction to the Linguistic Analysis of French

Description:
An analytical study of contemporary French phonetics, phonology, morphology, and syntax. This course is designed to prepare students for more advanced study of French linguistics at the 300 and 400 levels by acquainting them with the basic concepts and tools of linguistics as applied to French. Topics covered include the properties and organization of the sound system, the structure and formation of complex words, and the structure and transformation of sentences. This course is mandatory in all Specialist and Major Programs in French Linguistics.

Assignments and evaluation:
Two hybrid assignments (55%), one test (25%), active participation (10%) and overall assessment (10%)
Prerequisite:
FRE272H1 and FSL224H1/ FSL225H1. Students may also fulfill this prerequisite requirement based on the results of their French Placement Test.
